The McDougalds' 2003 Glass Insulators Price Guide says the only known insulators of this style, which has not had a CD number assigned yet, are unembossed. Size is 3 inch diameter round.

The April 2002 issue of Crown Jewels of the Wire, in John McDougald's 'Mac's Believe it or Not' section, included a color photo of "a completely round aqua glass johnny ball" on page 33.

The NIA's Glass Strain Insulators page says "Although all relatively uncommon, there are a variety of glass strain insulators available. These were typically used to insulate a telephone or power pole guy wire from ground."

Pyrex's Plain Facts About Insulators brochure, available at the Peninsulators site, says "Because of pressing limitations, some shapes -- guy strain insulators, for example -- are difficult to make at all."
