Story
Mike had come over to look at my Locke 25 to see what would be involved in repairing it better. He could, but it would take a while and he doesn't have the setup here to do it. Saturday we went out on a hunt -- a couple interurban trolley lines built around 1905 and dismanted around the 1925 time frame. Our first attempt at finding a loop where the tracks went wasn't too successfull, as while we were in the right spot, there was too much snow to do much. We headed back, and followed the line that was fairly easily visible. The road followed it rather closely, and seemed to go over in in a few spots. Stopped and hiked around a bit with no particular luck. Stopped again and went out, and we were walking along either side of the old line. I looked up and saw the umbrella sticking up out of the dirt and leaves. Called Mike over, then picked it up, and kept it in spite of the damage. Left it in front of the car, and went further back the other way. Came back and drove on again, and pulled over for another hike. This time found a copper splice which Mike took, and then found 2 more M-2430s, one with a mint top that I took, and put down to get later. As we came up back to the road, ran into the owner of the house across the way, who asked us where we thought we were. He informed us we were in the Seneca Nation and had no right to be walking around. Mike explained how we were researching the trolley line, and we had quite the discussion about NY government and taxes and registrations and religious topics Christian and Jewish and all sorts of stuff. Nice enough fellow, though I was a bit nervous about he wanted to keep us there until the cops showed up! We finally left him and went back to the car -- I left the top and may pick it up later. Then back in the car and made our way home. Found between Salamanca and Vidalia, on 417. Made by Victor, circa 1905-1906, which coincides with the trolley line dates of 1905 - 1920ish.
