The Plunger

Scott Fleming sent this very interesting design. I call it 'The Plunger" for obvious reasons!

As you can see from the photos, it is quite a piece of engineering work. It consists of two belt driven pulley assemblies - one drives the business end of a plunger (I'm guessing you'll want to use a new plunger for this rather than a used one...), the other end is attached to the pole.

When you set the plunger down on the insulator, you turn the pole, which in turn unscrews the insulator. Applying a little pressure downward allows it to grab the insulator, then you can lift it off.

Scott reports that it is a bit heavy, and you need to take a rest break every half-dozen insulators or so. He says you can also hang it on the crossarm to give your arms a rest.

Thanks, Scott!
