REN manufactured black plastic insulators similar in shape to CD 154.

'REN' is possibly Ren Plastics of Lansing, Michigan.

Ren Plastics was purchased by the Ciba Specialty Chemicals division of Ciba-Geigy Corporation of Ardsley, New York in 1971. The Ciba division (then called the "Performance Polymers Division") later changed its name to Vantico in 2000 as part of a management buy-out. See this MSDS sheet, Sovereign Publications, and the RenShape About page. This list of distributors of rapid prototyping materials says "The Huntsman Group purchased Vantico in July, 2003 and it has become the Huntsman Advanced Materials Division. RenShape Solutions is the part of the Division dealing with RP and tooling materials. Vantico was originally Ciba Speciality Chemicals many years ago." Thus Ren Plastics still exists, now in the form of RenShape Solutions.

Ren Plastics has a trademark for "Synthetic Resinous Plastic Materials" would include the material used in these insulators; apparently this was used from September 1955 until at least February 1977. Several trademarks related to certain components of the plastic-molding process are also included on the trademarks page.

Their salesmen's samples were made in unusual colors such as pink, as well as a variety of other colors, as shown in Rick Soller's display at the 1999 NIA National show.

The NIA show page says "These black plastic insulators were very tough and may have been used to prevent vandalism."
