| Story Bought in Dwayne's auction, I was looking at addresses for Joan Jett concert in LA when I realized Dwayne was close by. I looked it up and figured out how close, then asked if I could pick the piece up in person! We were in LA for Lora's wedding, and this worked perfectly. Went to see him, saw his collection, picked up the piece, and came home. Had a good visit -- enjoyed it greatly! ITEM No.: 30 CD No.: 131 EMBOSSING: (f crown) LG Tillotson & Co N.Y. (f skirt) Brooke's Pat Jan 25th 1870 (b skirt) Pat Jan 25 1870 Pat Feb 22 1870 COLOR: Aqua. CONDITION: Some front base flaking/chipping and two very minor ridge flakes. SUMMARY: An early threaded telegraph insulator that continues to be very popular with collectors, primarily due to the obvious abundance of bold embossing from top to bottom. There's also the added bonus of having two infamous names in insulator history boldly embossed together on the same insulator. Of the very few that exist, the condition of this example can actually be graded as very good to above average. The shallow base chipping does not appear distracting due to the fact that there is so much more to focus your attention on. A significant addition to any CD 131 specialty or early telegraph collection. BP: YES ESTIMATE: $450-550 RESERVE: $375 CLOSING BID: $475 | |||||
