Diamonds in the Rough

Part 2

02/06/2000

Well, I'm about halfway through the cleaning process, and while there are no real "finds," there are still a number of interesting insulators here!

Mostly they are Hemingray 9s and 12s in varying shades of blue - aqua. It amazes me how many different shades there are. From what I've learned, it seems the color differences are due to the different levels of impurities in the glass from batch to batch.

Here are a few photos of some of the continuing cleaning process.

My wife has to be the most patient woman I've ever met! Here's a couple of tubs of insulators soaking in our bathtub! Of course, she likes these funny glass things, too!

A closeup of one of the tubs of Hemi 9s and 12s.

This Hemi-9 is about to get its final scrubbing.

A scrubbing pad gets most of the dirt leftover from the soaking.

An old toothbrush is handy for cleaning out the threads and interior of the insulator.

Nothing like a good bath!

Some of the rust stains can be a little stubborn!

A clear Hemi-9 gets its insides scrubbed thouroughly.

A little elbow-grease on the outside, and…..

Nice and clean!
