Hello fellow CREBheads!

This is a test of the emergency CREBhead system.... this is only a test:

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

This was a test of the emergency CREBhead system. Had this been an actual letter to which you need to reply the you would have been given information where to mail to, in your area, for further instructions. This was only a test.

In the near future this system will probably not have to be used as, graciously, Bill Meier has offered us a better way of emailing.

Seriously - there is no reason to respond to this letter. This letter to all of you was the easiest way I had to get the CREBhead mailing list to Bill Meier.

Bill has a great idea for us to be able to correspond back and forth. The proposed advantages will include:

  1. It will take care of anyone (but he and I) having to update the mailing list.
  2. We need only mail to one address linked to www.Insulators.info - and therefore not tie up our computer time when sending out an email to all members -- currently 22 (important to us where DSL is not an option yet - Yes, I still live in the boonies!)
  3. Through using the ICON picture gallery in our own drawer we will be able to keep pictures of our discussions in a more public area where:
    1. We will be able to access pics by copy/pasting a link to each other - rather than having to wait sending/receiving time of large, picture- laden emails.
    2. We will be able to access old pics easier if we need them for reference (I know I will use this quite a bit!);
    3. The pics will be public and allow others to see why we enjoy these pieces and possibly spark an interest in them.

This is still in the building stages. We will keep you updated.

This is really just a test of the new CREBhead mailing I have set up for Lee. Basically, you simply send email to <CREBheads -at- insulators -dot- com> and it goes to everyone on the list... Likewise, if you reply to a message sent to the list, it goes back to everyone... Sound like ICON? Well, it's close...

A few differences:

  1. If there is a delivery failure "bounce" it will come back to you
  2. There is no "digest mode" - every message is sent out immediately
  3. There are no archives of the messages kept.
  4. You CAN send attachments, although this will soon be discouraged (watch this space!!!)
  5. anyone can send to the list. ANYONE (if they know the address... which is no different now, in that anyone can also send you email ...). But, only people on the list can receive the email.

Problems/issues with any of the above should be directed to Lee. My role in this list is just to make sure it functions from a technical standpoint.

Lee and I may have some more exciting news for you soon!

Bill

We really owe a big thank you to Bill Meier for suggesting to integrate the CREBhead mailing list into the insulators.info website. He even gave us our own folder for posting pics to (scroll down to the bottom of http://www.insulators.info/pictures/?op=list). I suggest we use this for any CREB matters. I think it will be a great way to expose this area of the hobby to more people. Considering this album has only been there now for 24 hours - it is impressive there have been 2628 hits on the pictures!!!!!!! There are still a lot of people out there who have no idea the depths this area of the hobby can go to. I would also suggest anyone who posts a question also go back and post the answer - I have already mailed an answer to Dave Hawkins: http://www.insulators.info/pictures/?id=98284461 and encouraged him to post the answer.

Anytime you want to make a message go out to all of us - write to <CREBheads -at- insulators -dot- com> and we all get it. You can also include graphics on the letter (as above) and we all get it. As of right now there is no official log being kept of the letters we send to <CREBheads -at- insulators -dot- com>. If you would like to volunteer to keep your copy somewhere for an official log of the letters, please let us all know you want to do this. You might, from time to time, be asked to search them by other CREBheads. As of right now I admit I do not have a computer system I trust enough to keep the log safe (I even have trouble reading the CDRW's I make at times!). There may be one of you out there with the technical know-how to integrate the list into some sort of a search engine for it also (maybe just using the search function included with Outlook Express?). If no one says they would like to do this - then these letters will not be kept.

To address one thing that has been asked - even in some of the posted pictures, this new CREBhead mailing list was initially my idea in that it was going to make a private list on my computer in Outlook Express. I figured I would just tell everyone to Reply All to the list.

It was Bill who picked up on my posting to ICON and told me he could make it better than what I was planning. Bill was also the one also who thought of, and offered to me, the album in the picture area. I was thrilled when he made these offers. All I really did is give him some of the ideas of some of our emails and made some choices.

BTW - the way this list is set up is that someone must email me to get their name on the list. This is just the way Bill set it up. So if you hear of someone not being able to get on the list, then please tell them what to do.

Happy collecting - and it just got a bit better!

Unfortunately, this is not true... any photo MOVED into that area retains its hit count, and many of the photos were posted 8 months ago (Dec 2003) ...

Only those with a date of mid Augest and after are the "new" ones... The updated date is just when they were moved in... I must even clear that date out...

Note if the year is the same as the current year, it is not displayed... Thus "August 28" is really "August 28, 2004"

But still, it reflects CREB viewing... since Feb 2003!

Sorry to all for the mistake in my number of hits. I should have thought of it considering I 'moved' some of the pictures there myself. I did not know or (for that matter) even give a notion about the number of hits remaining the same or being re-set (which they were not). That is my one-mistake allowance for the year - I'm in trouble!

Greetings!

In response to my asking is anyone out there could archive our emails, A.C. Walker has already gotten a good start on this: http://myinsulators.com/acw/archives/creb/

I also got a response from Jeramy Ross this morning. I think it would be good to have the info in both locations. Redundancy will keep it from being lost. I appreciate both people stepping forward so quickly.

So far, here is a list of those on the CREBheads list:

Note that this is a screen capture from my address book and therefore the names/addresses are not "clickable", or even complete in some cases.

As with any new concept, this one is growing! As the different ramifications present themselves, I will try to keep you posted.

Lee
